Are you a female,

OR
Are you a female, Australian GP who is planning to retire or reduce your generalist clinical load by >50% in the next 5 years?
We are interested in your decision to retire and the factors that influenced that decision.
The Survey Project (2025)
This project surveyed around 800 women GPs who have retired or will retire within 5 years to look at which wellbeing factors influenced their decision to retire. You can find out more about the findings here.
You can watch a presentation about this project here.
The Oral History Project (2026)
This project builds on our survey, using interviews with GPs planning to retire, or already retired.
We are hoping not only to analyse these interviews, to better understand why women GPs choose to retire, but also to collect their stories. At this time, general practice is changing significantly. Is is critical that we capture general practice as it is today, before it changes under the influence of policy shifts, technological innovations and generational shifts.
You can find out more soon - we are just finalising the research protocol.
